What’s Next for Frontline General?

7/27/10: Developing a new Situation and map add-on for Spearpoint 1943. Also in the concept phase for an Eastern Front expansion.
6/19/10: Spearpoint 1943 is now released.  After launching the game at Origins 2010 next week, we’ll be working hard to develop some video tutorials and trailers for the game.
5/15/10: Spearpoint 1943 is in production.
2/1/10: Preparing for three upcoming shows: Williamsburg Muster, Prezcon, and GAMA Trade Show. Spearpoint 1943 is complete and is ready for production.  We’re just waiting on some additional preorders before telling our printer “Go!” We’ll still be heavily testing Spearpoint right up until production for any necessary changes or clarifications. Situation (scenario) development and testing for the game is ongoing and we’re now calling on the help of external playtest teams to refine the game’s rules to their final form.
9/9/09: Working on revising Frontline General: Italian Campaign Introduction rules to streamline the rules and make them more functional and less wordy.  Also, heavily playtesting Frontline General: Spearpoint 1943, and continuing work on San Pietro Infine.
3/27/09: Working on Frontline General: San Pietro Infine and more video tutorials.
11/11/08: We’re doing research for the scenarios to be included with the full Southern Italy Campaign (upgrade and standalone versions). We’re also working on a new game that covers the historical battle of San Pietro. Mark Mahaffey is working on the box art and map breakout and research is ongoing. In the very near future, Issue 13 of Frontline General News will be released.  This issue will include a free new scenario for use with Frontline General: Italian Campaign Introduction as well as Tactical Scale Combat examples, a re-cap of our two most recent convention appearances (with photos), and information on where we’re taking this system.  If you haven’t already, sign up for the newsletter and other updates by subscribing to the newsletter here.
09/19/08: With the Quick Reference Card now available, we’re also working on several other player aids including a Turn Track Card and Force Total Card.
09/07/08: Collins Epic Wargames online store is now live!  Order your copy of Frontline General: Italian Campaign Introduction today!
09/05/08: The Print & Play version of FG:ICI is now online!  We’re launching the store on 9/8/08 to sell copies of the production version of the game!  We are also now preparing to attend Fall In! this year in Gettysburg, PA in November.
08/24/08: Gen Con is over! Now, we’re preparing to launch our Online Store and the Print & Play version of Frontline General: Italian Campaign Introduction.
07/14/08: Continuing to prepare for Gen Con and iron out final details on the production of Frontline General: Italian Campaign Introduction.  The game is well on its way for release this August and debut at Gen Con.
06/06/08: Preparing for Gen Con, Indy 2008, which is a very large game convention held in Indianapolis, IN this August.  CEW will be exhibiting and demonstrating Frontline General at the show, and we will have 100 boxed condensed ‘Italian Intro’ games for sale among other items such as polo shirts. Planning for this event is very time-intensive hence the lack of newsletters. Focusing on completing the game.
01/09/08: Work progressing into the Naval Side of warfare. Featured in the
Dec 07/Jan 08 newsletter issue are 3 new US Naval Cards. To kick off the preview, the newsletter focused on an interview with my uncle, a surviving WWII veteran Naval Officer.
09/26/07: Work continues on formalizing the rules and refining additional new Units. Heavy into research on Artillery, which is one of the focuses of the October 2007 newsletter.
07/26/07: Work continues on ‘Play Tester Packs’. They seem to keep expanding! Also, preparing for the last major ‘in house’ playtest which will occur over three days and involve four players.
06/11/07: Working hard again on ‘Play Tester Packs’ as mentioned in the March ‘07 newsletter.  This includes work to complete about 30 new cards for the game, rules, etc.
05/21/07: Currently writing the June 2007 newsletter feature article, which focuses on German Anti-Tank weaponry and small unit anti-tank tactics.  April and May have been highly-productive months regarding the game’s development. A full progress report will be provided in the June newsletter.
03/26/07: Working hard on ‘Play Tester Packs’ as mentioned in the March ‘07 newsletter.  Also, working on selecting the core group of play testers from a large number of responses.
03/13/07: New features on the web site: Contact form.  Continuing research on Anti-Tank tactics for US and German units. Continuing card development and tactical range refinement and testing.  Painting MINIATURES for use in explaining an upcoming tactical combat example or two- also for use in the tactical combat rule book.
02/05/07: New features on the web site: Contribute and Supporters sections.  Performing research on Panzer Tactics, Obstacles and Fortifications and their use during the war, and much more.
12/06/06: While continuing to gather additional resources for weapon performance, I am also writing and refining many of the combat rules and other rules for both scales that will structure Unit Engagements.
11/06/06: Currently, I’m refining weapon range calculations and conducting research on many of the small arms used by German and US infantry during World War II. In addition to small arms, I am also looking at the power and range of large guns.
10/18/06: Currently, I’m doing more research regarding the actual Italian Campaign, specifically, the historic battles for Monte Cassino, which will become one of the Scenarios included in the Italian Campaign upon release. I’m also continuing work on the Unit Cards and Basic Rules for the game, and I’ve started writing the November Newsletter.  I’m considering doing an article on the unique approach to scale that I’m taking with this game. If it’s ready, the article will preview the “Two Scales of Frontline General”.
10/08/06: Campaigns and Scenarios are the building blocks of structure for the game. The first Campaign Map is now complete, barring a few minor editing, and I’m very excited to post the preview of the Italy Campaign Map in the October Newsletter. If you missed the preview, please read the October issue of Frontline General™ News, now available in the Archives Section.
Credit for the visuals of the Italy Campaign map goes to the talented Mark Mahaffey. I’ve been working with Mark along the way, and he is a first-rate professional.  I’m very impressed with his work not only for this game’s first Map, but for other game Maps and visuals as well. Thanks again, Mark!
9/06/06: Unit Cards are fundamental to game play, since they deliver the mechanics during play for each unit. I’m very excited about how the card design has evolved, and I previewed the design for newsletter subscribers in the first issue of Frontline General™ News via E-Mail. If you missed this issue, you can always find back issues available in the Archives Section about a week after release to subscribers.
The feedback has been very positive regarding the Unit Cards and the newsletter, and I appreciate it! If you have any comments on anything in the game, please send them to me via E-Mail!
I’d like to thank Mr. Donal Hegarty for his critique of the Unit Card design for Frontline General, and for the time he spent working with me via E-Mail on some areas that needed improvement prior to release in the newsletter. Many Thanks, Donal!
Currently, I am refining and testing each German and US Unit for the game, which includes formatting all of the game stats into the new Unit Card Design, and refining / editing any applicable Special information for that unit.  Progress is relatively fast, and I’m excited about the results so far!
-Byron
